Quick, Simple Desserts to Prepare When Glamping
Are you currently planning out your next glamping trip? As you may already be aware, a glamping trip is similar to a camping one in that you’re spending time in the outdoors away from home, except it’s with many of the luxuries you’re used to. This could include furniture, access to electricity and, of course, delicious desserts.
To get ready for your glamping trip, you’ll need to start with a durable glamping tent. Ideally, this would be a canvas tent, since they’re the most suitable for setting up for an extended period of time outdoors. You also get more room to set up the space nicely and stay protected from the weather.
Once accommodation is sorted and you’ve decided on how you’re going to set it up with bedding and other furniture, the final step is figuring out your meals.
We’ve compiled a list of our favorite desserts to prepare when you go glamping. They’re easy, quick and most importantly, oh-so-tasty. While this list is primarily meant for inspiration and doesn’t provide detailed recipes, more nuanced instructions can be found through a quick Google search!
1. Cinnamon Crescent Rolls
To make cinnamon crescent rolls you’ll need a package of crescent rolls, a quarter cup of sugar, and a tablespoon of cinnamon. You’ll need to combine the cinnamon and sugar together in a bowl. Separate the crescent rolls, and then roll them in your sugar-cinnamon mixture. Proceed to cook them over your campfire for around five minutes, and rotate them very frequently.
2. Campfire Banana Boat
To make a campfire banana boat, you’ll need to take a banana with the peel still on. Cut down the middle of the banana until the blade of your knife comes into contact with the peel on the other side. Proceed to pull the banana and the peel apart slightly.
Fill up the banana with any ingredients of your choosing. You can do fudge, almonds, chocolate, caramel, or any other filling you’re fond of. For a bonus touch, melt the chocolate or caramel to layer the banana, much like a chocolate or caramel sauce! This is a fairly quick dessert and one you almost everyone on your glamping trip is going to relish.
3. Grilled Sweet Pineapple
While the jury’s still out on pineapples on pizza, grilled sweet pineapples are difficult to argue against. Slice up the pineapple, and then melt butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon together into a glazed sauce. Proceed to grill the pineapple over a barbecue or otherwise sear them in a pan.
You’ll likely need to cook the pineapple for around seven minutes, or until it has turned a golden brown color. Once the pineapples are done, proceed to spread the glaze over the top, and you’ll be all set.
4. Shortcake and Fruit Skewers
When you think of kababs, most people think of meats and vegetables grilled over a fire. But what if you were to put a more sweet spin on this concept? The answer lies in the Shortcake and Fruit Skewer.
All you’re going to need is shortcake along with grillable fruits, such as pineapple, strawberries, plums, rhubarbs, or pies. Since you’re probably already packing pretty heavy in anticipation of your glamping weekend, these ingredients shouldn’t be too difficult to bring along.
Simply stick the fruits and the shortcake onto the skewer, and then proceed to grill them over an open campfire while rotating frequently. For added sweetness, you can sprinkle them with sugar or cinnamon as well.
5. Pudgy Pies
Also known as mountain pies or toasties, pudgy pies are actually sandwiches (and not pies!). They’re also a camping tradition, though, and the name ‘pies’ has stuck for this tasty treat.
To make pudgy pies, you’ll need a cast iron toasting tool, and chocolate and peanut butter. Sandwich these two ingredients in between two pieces of bread to make a sandwich. Alternatively, you can also use ingredients such as fruit fillings or cinnamon raisin.
6. Campfire Cones
To make campfire cones, you’ll need an ice cream cone or waffle cones. Avoid cake cones, since they fall apart much more easily. Next, you can pick whatever fillings you want to go with, including chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, toffee bits, berries, and nuts.
Once your cone is filled up, proceed to wrap it in a heavy duty foil and then place it on a grilling grate over your campfire. In five minutes, the complete cone should be cooked all the way through. Give it just a few minutes to cool down and then enjoy.
7. Baked Apples
Making baked apples is a very simple process: simply slice up your apples, and then sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over the top. Wrap up the apple slices in tinfoil, and then bake in your glamping bonfire coals. Within ten minutes, the apples should be toasted through and ready to go.
If you want to take things a step further, you can hollow out the core of the apples and fill them up with brown sugar, nuts, and butter. Then, wrap the entire combination in tinfoil and cook in your campfire coals for twenty minutes.
